Although it's been the longest summer...ever. and those of us without air conditioning and an upstairs studio office, have sweat dripping down the backs of our legs by noon, the retail world is prepping us for the Holidays. Because, sweaty temps or not, they're right around the corner.

Coming up, I'm going to attempt to do a few posts featuring local boutiques in my 'hood that I think are worth visiting. I have to be honest, we in the beach cities have been starved for hip boutiques that offer interesting finds and design.  I'm happy to report that in the last few years, we've been lucky enough to have some really cool people who know what's-what, open up great boutiques. I blogged about one such boutique, Gum Tree, a few years ago when they first opened.

Gum Tree owner, Lori Ford was born and raised at the beach. She left her roots for NYC and returned with a talented Aussie chef/husband and an adorable daughter (and since, a son too)  Lucky for us she and her husband opened up Hermosa Beach's premiere boutique to shop and enjoy coffee or fresh organic food in the adjacent cafe. Lori's eye for design and knowledge of the lifestyle brands, has contributed to her unique and hip inventory.

It's hard to know where to start when you walk into the, turn of the century, beach house turned shop. I personally, like to start with  her jewelry. She always knows the best, independent designers of baubles.  Her home goods probably make up the bulk of her store, chandeliers, flatware, rugs, furniture, Gum Tree has a bit of everything. There's even a children's section.

I think above all, Gum Tree provides a spot for people to pick up a great hostess gift, a holiday gift for a friend or teacher or even a little something for yourself. And if you aren't in our area, they're now open for business on-line. Hop over and check out what you've been missing @ Gum Tree .

Here are a few of my favorite things...........

If you live in the beach cities, run on over to Gum Tree (238 Pier Avenue
